We have been learning all about the Marae this term. So on Wednesday we went on a trip to the Marae in Tuakau. We all had such an amazing day! We had a powhiri to welcome us onto the Marae then the children got to participate in some different activities that were run by the year 7 and 10 students from Tuakau College. They used pois, learnt the haka, played stick games, string games, learnt a song, played some games and colouring taniwha and koru patterns. Here is a video of our trip to the Marae.

Music
For music this term we have been learning about notes - crotchets, quavers and rests.
Room 3 has been making simple beats using body percussion and creating sandwich beats.
We have also been learning a song 'The Rattlin' bog' and today we got the instruments out and played them to certain parts of the song.
Here is the song that we have been using. You can have a sing along at home.
First we practiced singing and clapping the parts we would play with the instruments.
Here we go on the instruments.

Weta's and Honey
Well today was an interesting day! In the morning we had an unexpected visit from a weta that decided to climb onto Hayden and jump onto the table. I quickly caught the weta with my hands (no not really I calmly put a cup over the top) then we put it into a container so we could all have a closer look at it and check out all its features - long antennae, hair on its legs, black eyes on the side of its face and wings. Then we released it back into the bushes - well away from the classroom so it hopefully will not return.
Last week a child from another room brought in a small piece of honeycomb and we got to have a little look at it and this created a lot of discussion and some researching to find answers to our bee questions. So Lucy mentioned that she had beehives at her home and we were very lucky to have Lucy's mum bring in a frame from a beehive filled with honeycomb!! All the children got to look at it and taste it. We all decided that the runny honey tasted delicious (the classroom smelled amazing too). The children even got to bring a little piece home to share with their family however I think most of it will be gone by the time they get home.

Soccer Lesson
Last week we had a soccer taster session where the children had a 30 minute lesson with a soccer coach. They played some games that focused on practising some key skills needed in soccer. Children all brought home a letter that outlines what they do and all sessions are held at school during lunch time.
Athletics
We are getting ready for Athletics day in Room 3 so today for PE we practiced running races and our long jump. Let's hope the sun stays out!!
